Grilled Boiler Onions

2 pounds boiler onions, or small onions, unpeeled
2 tablespoons olive oil
Spice mix: you can use any spices/herbs mix you like. I like to make my own mix with salt, black pepper, herbes de Provence (thyme, basil, fennel and savory). You can also add turmeric, coriander, garlic powder, mustard powder, cayenne pepper, etc.
Bring 2 quarts of water to boil in a large pot. Add onions and blanch for a minute. Drain and cool.
With a pairing knife, cut onions ends and peel. The peels will slip right off the onions.
Place onions in a bowl and add the olive oil and spice mix. Mix together.
Grill onions on medium hot grill. Turn them over once or twice. Grill for 8-10 minutes or until they are slightly charred.
