Basil Storage Tips 1
Submitted by Lorraine Glazar, Tucson CSA
We had a choice of fresh basil for herbs on Tuesday (Yeah, Farmer Frank! You are pushing the season!) I had been wishing to make a recipe that called for fresh basil leaves, and previous to our pickup I could not find them locally.
I knew I would not be able to make the recipe until Thursday. I found a terrycloth potholder which was quite thick, and I tucked the bag of basil leaves inside then put it in my refrigerator door. I figured that the extra insulation of the potholder would help the basil stay green (it turns black in my frig in one day).
I was very pleased with the results of this experiment. Tonight I used the basil in the dish I had envisioned and only had to discard two or three half-leaves due to them turning black.
